You know who I\u2019m talking about.\u00a0 Every family has at least one\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

There you are\u2026at the latest family get-together, minding your own business when suddenly and for no good reason, you find yourself being verbally beaten about the head and shoulders by your sister-in-law\u2026again.\u00a0 Suspiciously butch yet avowedly hetero-, politically Left-leaning, and Bernie Sanders loving Rhonda (or Ronnie has she prefers it) has you backed into a corner with her finger poking repeatedly into your chest, flecks of artichoke and cheese dip flying from her mouth, in full-blown pique about Western Imperialism^{1<\/sup> and why the West owes it\u2026just owes it\u2026to the people of Asia, Latin America and Africa for the theft of their birth-right.<\/p>\n}

You have been here before; many times, in fact.\u00a0 You have found that if you don\u2019t struggle much and nod your head in the right places, Ronnie won\u2019t take long with her tirade and you can get on with other things.\u00a0 The mental adaptation you employ is learned helplessness.\u00a0 It involves\u2026<\/p>\n

\n
• You\u2019re not exactly sure what it is she\u2019s talking about, so it doesn\u2019t matter.<\/li>\n
• Your sis-in-law regularly rim shoots around the basket-of-crazy with other issues, so why bother with this one.<\/li>\n
• You can\u2019t muster the interest in what happened decades or centuries ago on far away continents.<\/li>\n
• Some combination of the above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Yet, this time is different.\u00a0 You don\u2019t want to exhibit your usual passiveness in the face of verbal onslaught. \u00a0In fact, it\u2019s starting to annoy you\u2026.seriously annoy you.\u00a0 What has changed, exactly, to lead to this change of attitude?\u00a0 What has changed that makes your sister-in-law\u2019s periodic tantrum more grating than usual?\u00a0 You ponder this\u2026.\u00a0 hmm\u2026well\u2026it could be\u2026.Yes!!!\u00a0 \u00a0Donald Trump is president!\u00a0 That\u2019s it!\u00a0 It\u2019s the contrast between him and Barrack Obama; Trump, brash and unfiltered versus the cloying political correctness of his predecessor.\u00a0 Trump is not just un-politically correct, he\u2019s anti-politically correct.\u00a0 While not the most oratorically gifted man, Mr. Trump does speak his mind and you have come to appreciate the man\u2019s bluntness in that, unusually for a politician, he actually means what he says.\u00a0 If Trump can speak his mind and come out looking good, why can\u2019t you?\u00a0 The answer is\u2026you can!\u00a0 And you should, too.<\/p>\n

  As mentioned in the first installment of this series, your sister-in-law and those like her have adopted a vocabulary of cant phrases on a par with bumper sticker slogans and use them to verbally beat you into submission.\u00a0 But, really, they don\u2019t actually know what they are talking about when it comes to European Colonialism.\u00a0 As a quick primer\u2026<\/p>\n

  • There were two distinct periods of European colonialism. The first is the colonization of The Americas in the 16^{th<\/sup> and 17th<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0 The second is the colonization of Southeast Asia and all of Africa in the 19th<\/sup> and 20th<\/sup> centuries between 1870 and 1945, a period called some have labeled as neo-colonialism.\u00a0 They are entirely different things with different motivations and policies applied, depending on the power doing the colonizing. It is the latter School of Vice will concentrate on in this series.<\/li>\n}
  • The prime motivator for neo-colonialism was highly dependent on the country doing the colonizing and the lands being colonized. There was no one single reason.\u00a0 Without a full blown history lesson, suffice it to say it seemed like the thing to do at the time for the British, French, Germans, Dutch, and Portuguese.<\/li>\n
  • Likewise, with the wars of decolonization in the 1950\u2019s and 1960\u2019s the reasons were quite varied as to the reasons why they happened.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Indeed, there was no overall organizing principal or common motivator for any of the European Powers to do what they did; and, it was a mixture of exploitation and beneficial development, again, depending on the power doing the colonizing.\u00a0 That last point is worth emphasizing again.\u00a0 In spite of what your sis-in-law and others like her believe, there was as much mutual benefit to colonization as there was exploitation.\u00a0 The British were decidedly benevolent in their approach.\u00a0 The French and Portuguese were a mixture of benevolent and exploitative.\u00a0 And the exploitation (things like corvee labor and prison labor) were not out of place per se either by historical or more importantly, by regional standards.\u00a0 But, more to the point, it wasn\u2019t some vast conspiracy by White Europeans to keep the brown and black people of the world in chains, or retard their social or economic development.<\/p>\n

    But\u2026and this is really the crux of the matter\u2026as is the wont of academic lefties everywhere, neocolonialism had to be shoe-horned into a goofy, overarching theory.\u00a0 What was the theory 150 years of history involving multiple competing economic powers with varied and frequently contradictory motivations?\u00a0\u00a0 Why Marxism of course.\u00a0 Was there any doubt?\u00a0 Yup, and it has a name, too\u2026Hobson-Leninism^{2<\/sup>.\u00a0 This one is a little obscure so modern-day Lefties haven\u2019t covered their tracks by relabeling it something it\u2019s not (not yet anyway).\u00a0 The theory goes like this\u2026<\/p>\n}

    • European industry produced too much, which the rich could not consume.<\/li>\n
    • The European poor could not afford to buy the over-production.<\/li>\n
    • European powers exported their excess capital to put it to better use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      That\u2019s the Hobson part of the theory.\u00a0 Lenin added to it by producing his Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism <\/em>which did the shoe-horning into Marxism^{3<\/sup>.<\/p>\n}

      Why do that?\u00a0 So Lefties, particularly Third World Lefties, could rationalize a response to it.\u00a0 And what was the response? \u00a0Leftist induced White Guilt.<\/p>\n

      The reality is the social and economic development of that part of the world was subpar to begin with compared to European powers.\u00a0 After the colonial powers left, it was still subpar.\u00a0 And, more to the point, with the possible exception of South Africa, the Europeans got very little in return for their efforts^{4<\/sup>.\u00a0 There were no great windfall profits to be had.\u00a0 Colonies were expensive to maintain and caused as many political problems back home as they did in the colonies themselves.\u00a0 Economically, most of them were a financial bust and caused wars amongst the Europeans themselves (The Boer War).<\/p>\n}

      So the next time you are forced into going toe-to-toe with Rhonda the Leftist sister-in-law, you main points should be\u2026<\/p>\n

      • No conspiracy by White European powers.<\/li>\n
      • No great wind-fall profits to be had.<\/li>\n
      • Goofy academic theorizing is the basis of Leftist induced White Guilt and not what actually happened on the ground in Africa or SE Asia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        And, what Rhonda will really, really love to hear about next is\u2026Third World Gangsterism.<\/p>\n
